In November 2006, seven months after launching Village Roadshow Theme Parks’ new $23 million show extravaganza – Australian Outback Spectacular – it was awarded the prestigious New Tourism Development category at the Queensland Tourism Awards in 2006.

The unique and exciting evening dinner show filled with outback music, drama and action was launched in April 2006 and has been enjoying astounding success since opening night. Now over 18 months old, the show continues to make an impression on people of all ages 6 nights a week.

Chief Operating Officer for Village Roadshow Theme Parks Steve Peet was on hand at the State Awards Ceremony in November 2006 to accept the award and expressed his delight in the achievement:

Australian Outback Spectacular was originally conceptualised over nine years ago by Chief Executive Officer of Village Roadshow Theme Parks and Executive Producer of Australian Outback Spectacular – Mr. John Menzies who identified the opportunity to promote Australian culture to domestic and international visitors. The show is set in an enclosed arena and features a one and a half hour show extravaganza with spectacular audio and visual effects. The production incorporates up to 40 horses, skilled stockmen and women and other favourite Australian animals, as well as a delicious three-course Australian BBQ dinner featuring a Queensland mango salad, quality Australian beef, vegetables, damper, pavlova and of course cold beer, wine and soft drink!

Nightly – from Tuesday to Sunday – the giant Arena, which has a 1000 seat capacity, thunders with the hooves of Australian Stock Horses as the action–packed performance unfolds.
