Peter Menzies

Overview

Writer of Australian Outback Spectacular

Ignatius Jones is one of Australia’s leading directors of major events. He personally directed the three largest live events in Australian history - the City of Sydney’s Millennium Celebrations, the Harbour Spectacular of the Closing Ceremonies of the Sydney Olympics, and the City of Sydney’s New Year’s Eve and Centenary of Federation Celebrations 1997-2002.

He is also one of the few directors ever to direct an “opening night of a nation”, when he directed the Independence Ceremonies of East Timor in May 2002, at the personal invitation of Nobel Laureate José Ramos-Horta and President Xanana Gusmão.

In the same year Ignatius was Director of Ceremonies for the Sydney 2002 Gay Games and Director of the Man from Snowy River Arena Spectacular, for which he and co-director David Atkins received a Green Room Award for Best Direction.

Ignatius also directed a segment of the Opening Ceremony of the 2000 Olympics - the Man from Snowy River – a charge of 121 horses into the stadium and the performance of the Australian Anthem by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Ignatius Jones’ body of work also includes directing ‘Orpheus in the Underworld’ for Opera Australia, which enjoyed sellout Sydney and Melbourne seasons in 2003.

Ignatius is currently working in Qatar as co-director of the 2006 Asian Games.
